AMERIPEN is leading on Proactive Public Policy, by developing legislative solutions, building industry coalitions, and directly advocating on behalf of its members with an innovative multi-state government affairs strategy.
- Research and reports focus on topical issues such implementing pay-as -you-throw, the difference (and similarities) of Circular Economy and Sustainable Materials Management frameworks, environmental analysis of various types of product and packaging, and academic research by York University and the University of Florida on Lifecycle Assessment.
- Weekly legislative updates dedicated to recycling and packaging activities keep member abreast of the latest legislative and regulatory activities
- Engaging on behalf of AMERIPEN members in the packaging dialogue in states such as California, Rhode Island, and Connecticut
- Engaging in States like Maine, Michigan and Minnesota as they revise their solid waste plans to help provide packaging feedback before decisions are made
- Active with State of Washington committee on recycling in face of China
- Collaborating with a group of trade organizations from across the packaging value chain, AMERIPEN’s Friday calls share up-to-date information about activities in the packaging space.

Andy Hackman
A multi-state lobbyist that works to achieve success for clients at the legislative, executive, and regulatory levels across the country on a diverse set of issues. Mr. Hackman is a registered federal lobbyist who has testified before the U.S. Senate and lobbied in over 25 state capitols. Prior to joining Serlin Haley, he served as Vice President of Government Affairs for the Toy Industry Association, where he oversaw TIA's advocacy programs at both the state and federal levels. Mr. Hackman has also directed the state government affairs program of the Consumer Specialty Products Association. Mr. Hackman received a Bachelors of Science in Public Affairs from Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs in Bloomington, Indiana and a Masters of Business Administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
